CRCBL Expands to 12 teams and Announce Herndon Braves Change in Ownership

The Cal Ripken Collegiate Baseball League announced the addition of two new clubs to its roster today and the change of ownership of the Herndon Braves for the 2013 season.

The Gaithersburg Giants and the Presstman Cardinals were both granted memberships into the CRCBL.  The Giants will become the CRCBL's 11th ballclub, beginning with the 2013 season. The Giants will join the Bethesda Big Train, Rockville Express, and Silver Spring-Takoma T-Bolts as the fourth Montgomery County-based team. They will play their home games at Kelley Park in the City of Gaithersburg.

The Cardinals will become the 12th team in the CRCBL.  The Presstman Cardinals baseball organization was established in 1962 as a community based equal opportunity baseball program with a mission to teach the fundamentals of baseball, sportsmanship, and integrity and to develop the skill levels of baseball players while competing at the highest amateur levels.

The Herndon Braves will begin the 2013 season with new ownership, Northern Virginia FCA Baseball.  The Braves will be one of three teams affiliated with the Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA).  These teams provide opportunities for college players to further their baseball skills and abilities, while also emphasizing the importance of character, integrity, and excellence in baseball and in the community. The core objective of these teams is to provide college baseball players and coaches the opportunity to exercise and to grow in their faith on and off the diamond.

In addition to playing games before hometown crowds throughout June and July, small group Bible studies and daily chapel speakers prepare and build players and coaches for the game of life from a Biblical perspective. The platform players have allows them to share their faith at youth camps, clinics, with visiting teams after home games, and in church services on Sundays.

"We are grateful to begin our inaugural year as an FCA Baseball team in such a distinguished league as the CRCBL," said Braves General Manager Todd Burger. "Two of our core values with FCA is excellence and integrity.  We plan to represent FCA and our Lord with excellence and integrity in how we conduct ourselves both on and off the field."
