This will be Chris Warren's first year coaching the Herndon Braves. Currently, Chris is in his 12th year as the Head Varsity Baseball Coach at W.T. Woodson High School, where he has a career winning pct. of .561. Chris was named the Liberty District Coach of Year in 2005, 2006 and Washington Post All Extra Coach of Year in 2010.
Chris attended Washington College (MD) where he was a 4 year letterman and captain. In 1997, he became the Co-Founder and General Manager of the Virginia Barnstormers, and was the a NABF 18 and Under National Champion in 2000, 2009, 2010. His teams participated in the Connie Mack World Series in 1999, 2001, 2003, and were runners up in the Connie Mack World Series in 2001. Over 250 former players that Chris has coached either played or are still playing collegiate and/or professional baseball.
Chris was the Head Coach in the Crab Claw Classic in 2012-2013 and was an Assistant Coach for the USA Baseball 17U Tournament of Stars NABF in 2012-2013.
Rob was born in Alexandria, VA, son of Gordon & Patricia Riley. A 1997 graduate of West Springfield HS (Springfield, VA) where he earned 1st team All-District & All-Region honors leading the Spartans to the Regional Semi-Finals under Hall of Fame coach Ron Tugwell. Rob went on to earn a scholarship at Virginia Military Institute (VMI) where he was a 3-yr starter as an outfielder and LHP. After college he worked in the front office for the Salem Avalanche Professional Baseball Club (now Salem Sox), High Class ‘A’ team for the Rockies (now Red Sox) and served as their Director of Stadium Operations.
From 2004-2009, Rob has served as the Director of Baseball Operations for Players Edge Training Center in McLean, VA, an elite athletic training facility for youth, high school, & college athletes with a concentration in baseball. Rob got himself back into shape and earned a chance to professional baseball from ’05-’09 pitching for 5 Independent League teams throughout the country.
In August 2007, Rob returned to school to pursue his Masters’ degree in Sports Business at the Virginia Commonwealth University’s ‘SportsCenter’ Graduate Program. Through graduate school he was able to make the contacts necessary to travel abroad and bring his playing and coaching abilities to The Netherland’s ‘Honkbal Competitie’ for the summer of 2008, pitching & playing outfield for the Mampaey Hawks in Dordrecht, Holland…leading the league in many pitching & hitting statistics. 2009 saw Rob return to the states to play for the American Defenders of New Hampshire in the Can-Am League, becoming a rare ‘2-way’ player in pro ball. His travels then took him ‘down under’ to Adelaide, Australia, playing winter ball for the Henley & Grange Rams in the 1st Division of South Australia Baseball Federation and the SA Claxton Shield team.
He decided to hang up his spikes shortly after returning from Australia in April 2010. Dedicating himself to providing aspiring athletes with the resources & tools necessary to help reach their goals & play this beautiful game at the highest levels. In June 2012, Rob co-founded R&D Baseball Academy, with the goal of helping pitchers & ballplayers maximize their abilities & stay healthy. Rob has spent thousands of hours analyzing & researching the details of what it takes to properly train pitchers. His passion & love for the game is evident with every ballplayer he works with.
2013 has seen Rob take on new challenges, entering his first year as the pitching coach for Bishop O’Connell HS & the Herndon Braves of the Cal Ripken League. With his experiences on the playing field, in the dugout as a coach, and in the everyday operations of the front office gives Rob a unique perspective into the world of sports. He aspires to continue training quality athletes and influencing ballplayers around the world.
This will be Joey Kamide's first season with the Herndon Braves. Kamide comes to the team via Oakton High School, where he served as the varsity infielders coach this spring and the head junior varsity coach in 2013.
A graduate of Herndon High School, where the Braves play their home games, Kamide previously served as a varsity assistant coach at James Madison High School (2005-07) and Centreville High School (2008-11), and has served as a head coach with the Vienna Mustangs and Demarini Stars travel programs.
In addition, Kamide coached overseas in 2011 and 2012, working with the Hungarian National Baseball and Softball Federation in 2011 and coaching the Tempo Titans Praha Baseball Club to a 26-4 records and Czech Baseball Association Division 2 national championship and promotion to the first division in 2012.
Tom Van Raaphorst
Tom was born and raised in Pittsburgh, PA and was and still am a big Pittsburgh sports fan. He received his undergraduate degree when from West Virginia University. In 2009, Tom went on to receive a Master of Education and a Master of Arts in Theological Studies through Liberty University. He currently is an Athletic Director and school teacher at Trinity Christian School. As an FCA Chaplain, Tom has dedicated his time and energy to preaching Gods word to students, athletes, and coaches. He is thrilled to see what God has in store for his life and am encouraged to see others on fire for the Gospel. Tom and his wife Rebekah reside in Fairfax, Virginia with their daughter and attend Sojourn Church in Vienna, Virginia.
