McCabe's Hot Start Pacing Braves' Bats
Herndon, VA - While his team has struggled out of the gate in dropping five of its first six Cal Ripken Collegiate Baseball League games, outfielder Rob McCabe (UMBC/Philadelphia, PA) has been a bright spot for the Herndon Braves, stringing together a six-game hitting streak to open the season.
The 5-8, 175-pound McCabe is hitting .471 (8-for-17) with six runs while hitting at the top of the Braves' order, ranking third in the league in hitting through Wednesday's games. He has also stolen three bases and has scored nearly half of the team's 13 runs.
A rising senior at UMBC who attended St. Joseph's Prep in Philadelphia, McCabe is one of four players from the Maryland school on the Braves' roster, joining right-handed pitchers Jonathan Cohn and Cameron Maxey and outfielder Jake Barnes. He was second on the Retrievers this past spring with a .280 batting average over 46 games, leading the team with a .368 on-base average and stealing 10 bases, good for third on the team.
McCabe and the Braves are scheduled to host the Silver Spring-Takoma Thunderbolts (2-1) on Thursday night at 7:00 p.m. at Herndon High School. They will then travel to Washington, D.C. to face the D.C. Grays on Friday, return home to face the Gaithersburg Giants on Saturday and travel to play the Bethesda Big Train to finish the week on Sunday.
